MAP Sensor Circuit Wiring Diagram (1994, 1995 2.2L Buick Century)

APPLIES TO: This manifold absolute pressure (MAP) circuit wiring diagram applies to the following vehicles:

  • 2.2L Buick Century: 1996.

Basic Operating Theory Of The MAP Sensor

The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor measures the pressure inside the intake manifold and converts those pressure changes into a voltage signal for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

The PCM supplies the sensor with a 5-Volt reference signal and Ground. As engine load changes, manifold pressure changes, causing the MAP sensor's output voltage to increase or decrease.

When engine vacuum is high, such as at idle or during deceleration, the sensor produces a lower voltage signal. As engine vacuum decreases during acceleration or wide-open throttle, the voltage signal increases.

The PCM uses this information to calculate engine load, control fuel delivery, adjust ignition timing, and determine barometric pressure for automatic altitude compensation.

If the MAP sensor signal becomes erratic or falls outside its normal operating range, the PCM may set diagnostic trouble code P0106, P0107, or P0108, depending on the type of fault detected.
